For many couples, setting the guest list is one of the most stressful parts of the wedding planning process. The size of the list has a profound effect on other parts of the celebration, including the budget and other major details.
At some point, most couples face making cuts to the guest list due to budget or venue constrictions. Start trimming by dividing your list into "A" and "B" categories. The "A" category is for people who absolutely must be invited and often includes lifelong friends and close family members. The "B" list is for all the rest.
Carefully examine your "B" list and ask yourself the following questions for each guest:
- How close are we?
- When was the last time we saw each other or spoke?
- Would I feel sad or disappointed if they were not at the wedding?
Use the answers to these questions to reduce your overall list.
Another approach is to leave off extras, like friends of your parents that you barely know or relatives only seen at the family reunion. You can also make your wedding just for adults or invite single guests without a date.
